Martin O’Neill looks set to be the new Leicester City manager - if one leading bookmaker is anything to go by.
The current Irish manager was at the helm at the Premier League club back in 1995, winning two League Cups and earning Uefa Cup qualification during a successful five year spell.
Clearly confident that a return is on the cards bookmaker William Hill has suspended betting after O’Neill was backed into 1/4. The Northern Irishman, nor the FAI have to date yet to give any indication of an exit.
The former Celtic, Aston Villa and Sunderland boss took over the Irish job in November 2013. Ireland are currently in fourth position in their European qualification group after a recent loss and draw against Scotland, although promising performances against Germany and Poland have boosted confidence levels.
O'Neill's assistant Roy Keane would be the favourite to replace O'Neill in an interim role at least, if of course the bookmakers are right and he is the man to replace Nigel Pearson.
And if that all does come to be O’Neill’s first Premier League game over the Foxes could be against Sunderland, the team who sacked him two years ago. What a start that would be.
Fellow Northern Irishman Neil Lennon was at 8/1 to get the job at the close of betting.
