Kevin Doyle is expected to delay any decision on his future until after the birth of his second child over the next couple of weeks with the 31 year-old striker said to be reluctant to move to the United States at such a critical time for his family.
Doyle, who is out of contract at Wolves in the summer. He has been a target for Colorado Rapids, who brought him out to Denver earlier this week to watch a pre-season game against Oklahoma city and discuss the possibility of a move.
Sources close to the player, however, say that despite the prospect of a three-year deal, Doyle is not inclined to make such a big move now and is happy enough to hang on until the summer and then weigh up his options as a free agent, if he has to.
Seán St Ledger will find out over the next day or two whether he has done enough to earn the offer of a contract from Orlando City.
The defender played the first half of a friendly game against Toronto on Sunday and did quite well.
Strong position
General manager John McDonough said the club would be bringing another, as yet unnamed, player from the Championship to have a look out before any decision is made but he acknowledged that St Ledger is currently in a strong position to be signed and that there is scope to add both.
Robbie Keane's club, LA Galaxy, will be in Dublin for the next three days training before heading to Sweden for a game against Hammarby. They are back in Ireland next week for a game against Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght on Saturday week.
Roy Keane will be back at St Colman's Park this Friday night for a charity game. The 43-year-old Keane is apparently unable to play for a team selected from Cobh Ramblers' ex-players due to a hip problem but will instead be in the dugout on the night.
Ramblers will be play Springfield FC in aid of the local Community Hospital and Patsy Freyne and John O’Rourke are amongst those expected to feature for the home side.
McShane fear
Paul McShane admits that he feared he would be leaving Hull City in January after having fallen out with manager Steve Bruce.
The defender, who has since made up with the manager and returned to the team said: “Football, it’s mad, it’s a crazy game sometimes. I thought I’d played my last game for Hull. I was prepared to leave in the transfer window.
“But I didn’t want to go, no way, it felt wrong to think about going, and now it’s great to be back playing, especially in a couple of good games with some big results.”
