Wolves extended their lead at the top of the Championship to five points despite drawing 0-0 with 10-man Sunderland at Molineux.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side could not take full advantage of Cardiff’s inactivity this weekend, with the Bluebirds travelling to Reading on Monday night, after failing to score at home for the first time this season.

Sunderland, who were forced to play 28 minutes with 10 men after Lee Cattermole received two yellow cards in the space of 54 seconds, remain one point adrift of safety.

Sebastian Larsson struck a superb 30-yard free-kick to ensure Nigel Adkins started his reign as Hull manager with a 3-2 victory over Brentford at the KCOM Stadium.

After the visitors went ahead through David Meyler's own goal in the 47th minute, Hull responded through Kamil Grosicki, Larsson and Jackson Irvine.

John Egan set up a nervy finish with three minutes remaining but Hull held on to bolster their survival hopes following the departure of Leonid Slutsky.

Derby moved up to fourth with a 3-0 victory at struggling Barnsley.

Tom Lawrence opened the scoring in the 39th minute before Matej Vydra, with his 13th goal of the campaign, and Andreas Weimann condemned the Tykes to a fifth consecutive defeat.

Gary Rowett's side leapfrogged Aston Villa after Millwall battled hard for a goalless draw at Villa Park.

Kemar Roofe netted a hat-trick to give Leeds a 3-1 victory at struggling QPR, who netted a late consolation through Pawel Wszolek at Loftus Road.

Martin Braithwaite and Patrick Bamford eased the pressure on Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk with goals in a 2-0 victory over Ipswich at the Riverside.

Birmingham, Bolton and Burton all remain in relegation trouble after losing on Saturday.

Sheyi Ojo's 14th-minute effort gave Fulham a 1-0 victory over Birmingham, who missed a late penalty through Jeremie Boga at Craven Cottage, while Bolton were beaten 3-2 by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Will Buckley cancelled out Barrie McKay's early opener to level things up at half-time before Forest sealed the points courtesy of goals from Joe Worrall and Ben Brereton, meaning Worrall's own goal at the death was nothing more than a consolation.

Burton are rooted to the bottom of the table after Tom Clarke and former Dundalk winger Daryl Horgan fired Preston to a 2-1 win at the Pirelli Stadium.

Lucas Akins netted for Nigel Clough's strugglers at the death but they are two points adrift of fourth-bottom Bolton.
