Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur 2 (Tel 84, Richarlison 90+1) Manchester United 2 (Mbeumo 32, De Ligt 90+6)

Matthijs de Ligt struck deep into stoppage time to rescue Manchester United a 2-2 draw after a dramatic finale at Tottenham.

This repeat of the Europa League final in May looked set to go the way of Ruben Amorim’s improving team after Bryan Mbeumo haunted old Brentford boss Thomas Frank with a goal in the 32nd minute.

It sparked boos at half-time from a disgruntled Spurs fanbase which has seen only three home wins in the Premier League in 2025, but the hosts’ turned it around with substitute Mathys Tel able to produce an 84th-minute equaliser.

When Richarlison deflected in a shot by the excellent Wilson Odobert in the first minute of stoppage time, Frank looked set to get the statement home win in the league his five-month tenure had lacked.

Yet wild home celebrations were followed by more late drama as De Ligt powered home a header from a corner in the sixth minute of added time to earn United a 2-2 draw and extended their unbeaten run under Amorim to five matches.

Both teams had seven starters each from that night in Bilbao, but United arrived in the capital in a good moment under Amorim after a tricky September and Tottenham eyed a first league win at home since August.

Mbeumo’s threat was clear early on despite being caught offside twice, but Spurs should have gone ahead in the 17th minute.

The bright Xavi Simons found Brennan Johnson, who cut inside and produced a wonderful left-footed cross but Richarlison could only send it wide off his shoulder.

It was a guilt-edged chance and five minutes later the other Brazil forward on the pitch nearly scored.

Matheus Cunha bundled his way past Cristian Romero and got into the area only for Pape Sarr to deflect his shot wide.

Chances remained limited until Amad Diallo forced the breakthrough in the 32nd minute.

Sarr put Micky van de Ven in trouble with a careless pass and after the visitors recycled the ball well, Amad clipped in for Mbeumo, who peeled off Pedro Porro, to head past Guglielmo Vicario.

When Spurs did finally attack, first Johnson and then Porro squandered openings with poor crosses to ensure a smattering of boos occurred at half-time.

Half-time sparked the hosts’ into life as replacement Odobert crossed in for Romero, but his back heel was brilliantly saved by Senne Lammens.

Lammens was required again 60 seconds later in the 56th minute and was again equal to Joao Palhinha’s half-volley.

Amorim had seen enough and sent on Benjamin Sesko before Spurs had the ball in the net through Johnson, but he was offside.

Destiny Udogie was introduced next by Frank and after United captain Bruno Fernandes fired over in the 70th minute, boos greeted the decision to take off Xavi.

Frank had the last laugh when his substitutes combined as Odobert found Udogie, who crossed in for Tel and he lashed into the top corner with six minutes later.

When Sesko limped off to leave United with 10 men, the home crowd sensed an opportunity and wild celebrations followed after Richarlison flicked in Odobert’s cross as six minutes were added on.

However, Amorim watched the visitors score in Fergie Time as a last-gasp as Fernandes’ corned picked out De Ligt, who got the better of Rodrigo Bentancur to head home past a static Vicario.

Sunderland 2 (Ballard 36, Brobbey 90+4) Arsenal 2 (Saka 54, Trossard 74)

Brian Brobbey scored a last-gasp equaliser as high-flying Sunderland held Premier League leaders Arsenal to a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light.

A stop-start first-half suddenly sparked into life when former Arsenal academy product Dan Ballard sent the hosts ahead with a thumping finish, ending the Gunners’ run of eight consecutive clean sheets in all competitions.

Bukayo Saka levelled with a low effort after the break and, with Arsenal having controlled most of the game for the second half, Leandro Trossard sent the visitors ahead with a stunning effort from outside the area.

Late drama followed as Brobbey stabbed home from Ballard’s header to earn a point for the hosts against the division’s top side.

Sunderland named the same line-up for the third successive game and Arsenal made three changes from their midweek Champions League win as Eberechi Eze, Martin Zubimendi and Riccardo Calafiori started.

Early in the game, a cross for Mikel Merino saw him clash with Ballard, leading to a brief stoppage and Declan Rice’s curling free-kick was clawed away by Robin Roefs.

Rice had a tame strike blocked, but the Gunners then missed a great opportunity when Eze pounced on Enzo Le Fee’s misplaced pass and could only loft his shot over the crossbar.

There was another stoppage following a clash of heads between Le Fee and Jurrien Timber before Saka had a mild effort held by Roefs.

Sunderland went ahead in the 36th minute when Nordi Mukiele nodded the ball down in the box for Ballard, who burst past Rice and fired a powerful strike past David Raya.

The visitors came close in first-half stoppage-time as Saka played into William Saliba, who could only blast over the bar before Mukiele smashed an effort just wide.

Eze had a shot blocked from a long throw early in the second half and Noah Sadiki broke forward before playing a neat ball into Wilson Isidor, who fired into the Arsenal defence.

Roefs held Zubimendi’s low effort and Saka dragged a shot wide before Arsenal equalised in the 54th minute when Le Fee was caught out by Rice and a quick surge into the box saw Merino thread a pass into Saka, who beat Roefs at his near post.

The goal spurred Arsenal on when Zubimendi’s effort flashed wide of the post before Roefs made the save from Eze’s strike and Sunderland then made a triple substitution as Brobbey, Simon Adingra and Chemsdine Talbi came on.

The Gunners threatened again when Roefs’ punch fell to Zubimendi on the edge of the area, where the midfielder smashed the crossbar.

Arsenal’s dominance paid off in the 74th minute as Trossard sent them ahead for the first time in the match, twisting on the edge of the box before dispatching a stunning strike that nestled in the roof of the net.

Ballard’s flick-on from a long throw forced Raya into an excellent save and the Arsenal goalkeeper made another important stop to deny Brobbey, who was flagged for offside.

Moments later, Brobbey forced Raya into another brave stop, but the striker eventually found the net in the fourth minute of stoppage time, awkwardly poking home from Ballard’s header.

Roefs then denied Calafiori at the death, with Ballard blocking Merino’s follow-up after the save, as the Black Cats held on for the point.

Elsewhere, Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane supplemented Everton’s misfiring attack in a 2-0 win which extended Fulham’s woes on the road to a fifth successive match.

Super sub Tomas Soucek inspired West Ham to a second consecutive win after they sank fellow strugglers Burnley 3-2.

The Czech midfielder climbed off the bench to score for the second match running, and created a third for Kyle Walker-Peters, as the Hammers made it back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since February.

Burnley, who had led through Zian Flemming before Callum Wilson equalised, pulled one back with the final kick of the match through Irish midfielder Josh Cullen.
