All OF track and field's world records may be wiped from the books at the start of the next millennium - that's the latest move in the battle against drugs proposed by the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) at their council meeting in Monte Carlo last weekend.
The council will address the move at their rule-making congress in August, when delegates from every country will vote on the idea as a technical rule change. It is hoped the cleansing of records will motivate a new generation of athletes to be drug free, not to mention the fact that many of the current figures have a question mark hanging over their validity.
