Galwegians continued to keep their perfect record intact when they embarked on a 49point feeding frenzy at Crowley Park. Running in seven tries against the hapless Instonians, Galwegians illustrated perfectly the gap between the league leaders and the team second from the bottom of the table.
Tries from Mervyn Murphy, Graham Heaslip, Pat Duignan and Willie Ruan ensured Galwegians closed the half 28-3 ahead. Three more touchdowns in the second period with another from Duignan and a brace from Alan Reddan ensured a healthy margin winning margin of 49-8.
Irish out-half Eric Elwood also tapped into a rich scoring vein landing all seven conversions. Duignan's scores makes him the league's top scorer with six so far in the campaign with Elwood leading the kicking leader board with 78 points from seven matches played.
Buccaneers continued to keep the pace behind Galwegians in another clear cut win over Skerries. Skerries too are in grave difficulty at the bottom of the table and despite a robust display conceded four tries at the Ballinasloe venue.
Left wing Robert Lee put a finer gloss on the score with two breakway scores late in the match.
Not to be out done third placed UCC also kept up a belting pace and while not as emphatic as the two clubs above them, they still managed two points from Monkstown, who have only two points to show from seven games played.
After a barren 38 minutes UCC took up the running after the break with Tim Cahill grabbing a try and Colin Healy adding two penalties and a conversion in their 13-5 win.
The mid-table clash between Sunday's Well and Greystones took it's course without Irish prop Reggie Corrigan, who was rested as a precaution after bruising his knee in training on Friday evening.
It was perhaps a fitting end as both former Irish coaches Ciaran Fitzgerald and Murray Kidd faced up to each other at Musgrave Park where the home side's scrum half Eddie Hogan-O'Connell kicked four penalties, tieing the game 1212 with his last score nine minutes from the end. Sunday's Well sit fourth in the table with eight points from six matches.
The derby between Bective Rangers and Wesley also ended in a 24-24 draw with Wesley coming from behind to claim one of the important points.
DLSP took welcome points from Wanderers when a precious try from Conor Cadogen at Kilternan ensured his side's victory. The 22-11 win moves DLSP a little further from trouble but they are no means yet in the clear.
City of Derry's pack again earned them a 26-15 win over Belfast side Malone to put them in fifth place on the table. Irish centre Maurice Field snapped up a try for Malone but the visitors could not match the power of the front eight with out half Stephen Smyth, full back Alastair Tosh and captain Neil Stewart each scoring a try.
