Jon Rudd takes up performance director role with Swim Ireland

Rudd has previously worked as head coach of the Great Britain and England teams

Jon Rudd has been appointed Swim Ireland's national performance director, the national governing body has announced.

Rudd, Plymouth Leander head coach since 1989 and director of swimming at Plymouth College since 2006, is the coach of 2012 Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania and 2016 Olympic finalist Ben Proud.

He has also worked as head coach of the Great Britain and England teams and will start his new role in February, tasked with leading Ireland’s high performance programme through to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Rudd said: “I am honoured to take on this role for Swim Ireland as it is an exciting opportunity for both them and I.”

Speaking on the appointment Swim Ireland chief executive Sarah Keane said “I am really excited by the appointment of Jon. He is very driven and determined and I think that he will be a strong leader. Jon has the relevant skills and experience to be our National Performance Director and has the ambition to help us attain our vision.”
