Howth Yacht Club's Douglas Elmes and Colin O'Sullivan are celebrating their bronze medal at the Youth Sailing World Championships in Malaysia at the weekend.

The pair were competing in the double-handed 420 class in a 33-strong fleet where they featured consistently in the top ten in the nine-race series.

Their final day was their worst counted score with an eleventh, but it was enough to deny the main Australian challengers a place on the podium.

Bangor's Liam Glynn finished 15th overall in the 56-strong boys event in the same class with a brace of top ten results including a third place.

The event was overshadowed by a diplomatic row that saw the Israeli team absent from the event, drawing the ire of several national sailing authorities including New Zealand, Denmark and the US.
