FAI CUP SEMI-FINAL DRAW:OLD RIVALS Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians remain on course to face each other in the first final of the Ford-sponsored FAI Cup to be played at the Aviva Stadium when both of the Premier Division title contenders were last night drawn at home in the competition's semi-finals.
St Patrick’s Athletic face the prospect of having to go to Tallaght and get a result if they are to end their long run without a cup success, while Sligo Rovers, who play Bohemians at home in the league this evening, must head to Dalymount.
The games will be played on Friday, October 15th, and Sunday October 17th, although the order of the ties will not be confirmed until today.
“Obviously, it’s a little disappointing for us because everybody wants a home draw in the semi-finals of a cup,” said St Patrick’s Athletic manager Pete Mahon after the draw was made last night, “but it looks to have worked out well for the FAI.
“They’ll want a full house at the Aviva for the final and most people probably feel that Rovers-Bohs final is their best chance of getting it.
“Funny, I was only saying to the lads before training tonight that I had a feeling this is the way it might work out and there you go. It looks like I’m a prophet as well as a football manager.
“Anyway, we’ve gone to Tallaght and won already once this season and the intention now will be to go there and do it again.”
