University of Limerick shade a spectacular shoot-out against Cork rivals

Kerry’s James O’Donoghue notches 1-10 in an impressive individual display

University of Limerick 5-18 UCC 4-16

This bizarre McGrath Cup quarter final produced nine goals and 34 points despite being played in torrential rain with the final minutes played in almost total darkness.

In the end the Liam Kearns’ UL side were deserving if surprise winners of a game in which they trailed by seven points ten minutes into the second half.

No card of any colour was produced and for James O’Donoghue, from the Legion club in Killarney, it was an afternoon to remember.

He scored 1-10 for UL with only three of the points being from frees while Paul Whyte scored 2-2 (0-1f) in the shock win.
