From Gordon Manning:

“The GAA have issued a statement clarifying the final score of Sunday’s All-Ireland SHC semi-final, revising the official score to: Tipperary 4-20 Kilkenny 0-30.

“The score was initially given as 4-21 to 0-30 but that has been amended because Noel McGrath’s 70th minute effort had been incorrectly awarded as a point.

“The GAA can confirm that the official score at the end of the Tipperary v Kilkenny GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship Semi-Final was 4-20 to 0-30. The GAA acknowledges there was confusion over the final score. The CCCC is awaiting the full referees report in order to establish how the initial mistake occurred,” stated the GAA.

“McGrath fired over a shot just as the clock struck 70 minutes – his effort greeted by cheers from the Tipp fans on Hill 16 but the umpire on the near post waved it wide.

“However, the scoreboards in Croke Park all updated to include McGrath’s point – showing the score as 4-21 to 0-29 with the game having just entered the first of four added minutes.

“Tipperary made a sub at the same time and with McGrath’s effort coming just seconds after Oisín O’Donoghue’s goal, it was a frantic and chaotic period.

“However, believing they were now four behind, Kilkenny immediately went in search of a goal and in the very next attack Eoin Cody tried to burrow through for a green-flag score even though a relatively straightforward point opportunity emerged during that attack.

“Jordan Molloy did then score a point in added time to reduce to gap to three points, according to the scoreboards in Croke Park. However, the deficit was actually just two so rather than continuing to try force a goal in those dying seconds, Kilkenny could have picked off points. Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng was not making a big issue of the confusion after the game. However, the GAA have now had to issue a statement to alter the official result.”

Some news that the score is 4-20, not 4-21, it has been clarified and changed again. What a mess. It came from a Noel McGrath shot after the goal had been scored, his point was signalled wide but it was misunderstood.

Which changed the dynamic of the closing stages as Kilkenny thought they were three behind, not two behind, and went for goals at the end instead of points. It’s a mess which takes away from the great spectacle between the two teams.

Some confusion on the final score whether it’s 4-21 or 4-20 for Tipperary. Still ends up in a Tipp win regardless.

Jason Forde, man of the match, on RTÉ:

“Hard to process, absolutely wrecked after that! A lot of men stood up there in the last 10 minutes. They started out very fast, we struggled to get into our flow. We were creating a lot of chances.

“You wouldn’t be expecting to take over the frees, you need to step for the team, but happy to do that. We’ll have a serious two weeks now to train and we’ll give it a lash in the final.”

Noel McGrath: The feeling of winning will never get old, it’s such a great feeling, we’ll enjoy it for the next few hours. I don’t know what to say, Oisin’s goal was unbelievable. You don’t get a chance to think about it, it just happened. It probably suited us that they went short with their puckouts. Our backs were nearly even better after we went down to 14. There was some unbelievable defending, forward play as well.

They show him the goal: “It was very messy, Kilkenny couldn’t get it out, some pick up by Jake. Ohh that’s some finish, some finish!

“That care-free attitude from the young lads, they come in they train, they just wanna play hurling. They’re there when I get to training. Some of them have never even been in Croke Park. There’s probably up to six lads that weren’t there last year. Confidence is a big thing, maybe we were only a few per cent off last year, it’s working.”

He then swears and apologises, but can’t blame him after that match!

74 mins: Noel McGrath wins an important free with a minute left as the Tipp fans are in full voice. John Donnelly has a shot and he beats the keeper but Doyle on the line knocks it off the line! Game-saving block!

Game over!

Full-time: Kilkenny 0-30 Tipperary 4-21

Tipperary are in the All-Ireland hurling final!

Here was the key goal:

72 mins: Four minutes stoppage time. Kilkenny go for goal but cleared by Shelly. Molloy reduces it to three. Kilkenny 0-30 Tipperary 4-21

70 mins: Mossy Keoghan gets his sixth of the game to level the scores. Great determination by Tynan to win it back, eventually falls to Oisin O’Donoghue...

GOAL FOR TIPPERARY! He whas three or four players around him, digs it into the top corner, flying past Murphy. Wow, what a response to the red card by Tipp. They knock on another point.

Kilkenny 0-29 Tipperary 4-21

68 mins: Great battling by Ormond and he wins a free a decent distance out but Forde scores it well. Then Tipp win it back again, not looking like they’re a man down. Then Forde scores a brilliant point from the sideline! Now they’re ahead. Kilkenny 0-28 Tipperary 3-20

65 mins: A short free goes perfectly to plan as Kenny nails one from distance. Then Carey catches a puckout, from the attack, Kenny tries again but hits the post. Ormond is surrounded by three players but then is given a wild swipe by a Kilkenny player and goes over and holds his head. Carey gets a yellow card, got away with that. Tipperary score the free.

Kilkenny 0-28 Tipperary 3-18

62 mins: Billy Ryan receives treatment to give everyone a chance to breathe for a moment. Serious battles going on now in midfield, almost like a rugby maul of players as they scramble for the ball before Richie Reid hits it wide. Then a superb point from Keoghan under serious pressure.

Kilkenny 0-27 Tipperary 3-17

59 mins: Forde is now on the frees for Tipp, and slots another one over. Mossy Keoghan gets his first of the second half, fourth of the game to go ahead again.

Red card Darragh McCarthy! McCarthy show his inexperience on a yellow card, second yellow to leave Tipp down to 14 men. He’s gutted but that’s a big blow for Tipp.

Jake Morris scores a point though in response and rallies the Tipp fans.

Kilkenny 0-26 Tipperary 3-17

56 mins: Deegan gets a yellow card for a clash on the sideline and starting to be a few bigger hits coming in. Forde scores a free to level the scores. Kenny with a great pick-up and wins a free as TJ Reid is relentless, one of his toughest frees of the game but straight over. 11 points in the game.

Kilkenny 0-25 Tipperary 3-15

53 mins: Big mistake by Breen, just passes straight to Billy Ryan, they have to haul him down. And TJ Reid knocks over the free to give Kilkenny the lead. Kilkenny 0-24 Tipperary 3-14

50 mins: Brilliant point by Cian Kenny from 65 out and near the sideline, sails it over. TJ Reid has a chance from just inside the 65 and he rarely misses from there. Level game!

Kilkenny 0-23 Tipperary 3-14

48 mins: Mullan gets his first of the day for Kilkenny, as McCarthy takes a free from the halfway line and nails it. Another point for Mullan from the long puckout. After no frees in the first half, McCarthy has had several free chances early this half, misses another. Kilkenny 0-21 Tipperary 3-14

44 mins: Three wides in a row for Tipp, Connolly from a long free and Connolly when under pressure not far out, he mishits it. Butler slips and gives Ormond a chance but he misses too.

Finally Tipp score, O’Farrell with it. Not very clinical but a period of domination on the ball.

41 mins: Good start to this half by Kilkenny, Jordan Molloy with a point to reduce the deficit to two. McCarthy misses a very scorable free for Tipp. Kilkenny 0-19 Tipperary 3-12

The second half is under way. Within a minute, TJ Reid wins and scores a free.

38 mins: Darragh McCarthy responds with his first free of the game. Good run and swipe at it by Cody for his second point of the game. Kilkenny 0-18 Tipperary 3-12

From Gordon Manning at Croke Park:

Tipp lead at the break after hitting Kilkenny for three first-half goals. The entire Tipp full-forward line – John McGrath, Darragh McCarthy and Jason Forde – have raised green flags.

Kilkenny actually led 0-9 to 1-1 after 15 minutes but Tipp stormed back in the second quarter of this contest. Bryan O’Mara has been mopping up a huge amount of ball for Tipp while Eoghan Connolly and Conor Stakelum have both hit three points apiece.

Kilkenny have tried to shore up their leaky full-back line by moving Paddy Deegan back to the last line of defence.

At times the Kilkenny forwards have looked very dangerous but so far Tipp have held them at bay in terms of goals. It would be a surprise if we don’t see more goals in this match.

Tipp have had a lot of luck with balls into their full forward line and again it gets all the way to McGrath and he scores from short-range. Another free by TJ Reid rounds up the half.

Half-time: Kilkenny 0-16 Tipperary 3-11

Kilkenny had a lot of the play in the early stages but Tipperary’s goals have made the difference so far. Their full-back line is struggling to deal with the pressure and will have to shore it up second half if they are to stay in it.

35 mins: A third point of the game by Stakelum, more than justified his late selection in midfield. Another free scored by TJ Reid to bring the Cats within two again. After a few nice passes, Connolly scores his third of the game, fine score.

Then Jake Morris scores after the puckout. Back to four points in the difference.

32 mins: Eoin Cody gets his first of the game, a nice point from the middle of the pitch but Kilkenny could do with a goal or at least some sniff of a chance. It opened up a little for one, but Tipp got back in numbers and blocked for a 65. TJ Reid scores that 65. Kilkenny 0-14 Tipperary 3-7

29 mins: TJ Reid scores a point but Tipperary are playing the ball into the full forward line and causing havoc, Tipp could have had even five or six goals so far! Connolly get another point from full back to give Tipp a four-point lead. Some block by Tynan as a blood sub prevents a Kilkenny chance. Kilkenny 0-12 Tipperary 3-7

26 mins: The teams go level, a brilliant save this time by Murphy from Mullan, the ball goes over the bar but more than made up for the previous moment. Then McGrath scores and suddenly Tipp are leading! All Tipp’s scores from play.

Another goal for Tipperary! Jason Forde, another mix-up at the back, Forde with a brilliant finish, lobs it over Murphy who was advancing on him.

Kilkenny 0-11 Tipperary 3-6

22 mins: Sloppy pass by Kilkenny goes out over the sideline, mishit sideline falls fortunately to Morris who gets his first point of the day. The wind is starting to make an impact, in favour of Tipp it seems, but Kilkenny still battling away and Keoghan scores from the wing after a diagonal pass.

Goal for Tipperary! Then a misunderstanding at the back leaves Darragh McCarthy through and he shoots at the goal, Murphy could have done slightly better in the net perhaps but it’s in the net and it’s a one-point game!

Kilkenny 0-11 Tipperary 2-4

18 mins: Stakelum gets another point for Tipperary to reduce the deficit to four. Superb interplay and skill by Kilkenny, Kenny wins a free which TJ Reid taps over. O’Farrell hits it wide as the weather gets worse at Croke Park. Massive point though by Connolly puts Tipp back to four back. Kilkenny 0-10 Tipperary 1-3

15 mins: Shelly causing big problems with his long puckouts, with Tipp going for several goal chances, but strangely no points on the board. Molloy gets another for Kilkenny as this time Lawlor wins it in the air and eventually ends up with another point, Billy Ryan. Stakelum finally gets Tipp’s first point of the game.

Good catch by Donnelly in midfield and it’s another. It’s quite the spell by the Cats. Kilkenny 0-9 Tipperary 1-1

12 mins: Good battling by TJ Reid against Maher, wins it eventually and slots it over. Very good start by Kilkenny, they have had much of the play. Keoghan scores another. Kilkenny 0-6 Tipperary 1-0

9 mins: Another wide by Donnelly, his second of the game. Good piece of play by Kilkenny as Deegan plays a lovely ball down the wing to Billy Ryan and shoots if over off his left. Then Keoghan gets in front of his marker and smacks one over.

But then goal for Tipperary! Good puckout and then a shot is blocked. Falls to McGrath and he hits a superb shot into the roof of the goal.

Jordan Molloy puts Kilkenny back ahead, it’s kicking off now! Tipp were nearly in for a goal again, but good defending by Kilkenny.

Kilkenny 0-4 Tipperary 1-0

5 mins: McCarthy with an early yellow card after a swipe of the Kilkenny player’s hand. A few wides for both teams and a few mistakes in what is a nervy start.

2 mins: First chance of the game, McCarthy hits it wide. TJ Reid shows his threat with the first point of the game, 37-year-old will have to be watched today. Kilkenny 0-1 Tipperary 0-0

The teams are on the pitch, 65,000 odd at Croke Park. Throw-in about five minutes.

From Gordon Manning at Croke Park:

Good afternoon from Croke Park. Both teams are out on the pitch going through their pre-game warm-ups. Kilkenny were first out and the Cats will line out as selected during the week.

Cian Kenny and Jordan Molloy have been selected at midfield with John Donnelly captaining the team from centre forward. TJ Reid will wear 14 and he is flanked by Marian Keoghan and Eoin Cody.

Tipperary have made one change to their starting team – Conor Stakelum replacing Peter McGarry. Ronan Maher captains the team from centre back.

It had already been a positive day for Tipp at Croke Park after the Premier County’s camogie team beat Kilkenny in their All-Ireland quarter-final.

A heavy shower fell in the closing stages of that match so underfoot conditions could be slippery. It’s dry right now though and the sun is starting to peek through the clouds. Croke Park was a sea or red yesterday and GAA officials say they are expecting around 55,000 for today’s semi-final. Cork await the winners in the decider. We are about 20 minutes away from throw-in at Croke Park.

Final score of Tipperary 1-22 Kilkenny 0-19 in the camogie semi-final, a big extra-time by Tipp.

Camogie semi-final draw:

Cork v Waterford

Galway v Tipperary

Nicky English wrote this about today’s game:

“Sunday’s semi-final is complicated because, as mentioned at the top, I have no idea what the ‘relativities’ between the provinces are at this stage. Kilkenny are Leinster champions and don’t look to me like they have disimproved in any way.

“You could say they have added a couple of players in Jordan Molloy and Shane Murphy, but they were panellists and the team is much the same as lost to Clare last year.

“Mossie Keoghan has been in good form and Eoin Cody is back from injury so it’s a recognisable package – extremely recognisable, as they have been on the road so long and there aren’t many miles left for a lot of them.

“So, it’s now or never for a team that has been waiting to redeem what they see as a preventable defeat against Clare last year.”

A big goal from Peter Colton from the penalty spot means that Kerry and Tyrone are level, 1-14 each, with five minutes left in the minor football final.

Here is the match preview from Seán Moran:

“There is every reason to trust Kilkenny’s remarkably consistent delivery at this level more than the Tipperary rebuild and to be wary of one of those blazing phases when they go to town on a team.

“But Tipp have had the lessons of two incinerations in Pairc Uí Chaoimh when they chased a lost cause regardless. In the league final they actually outscored Cork in the second half, and with 14 men in Munster they still managed to create goal chances.

“Kilkenny won’t present them with the tracts of space they got from Galway but in a coin-toss decision, maybe their hard-won momentum can carry them a little farther.”

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the second All-Ireland semi-final between Kilkenny and Tipperary at Croke Park. Throw-in is at 4pm. Cork threw around their weight yesterday in thrashing Dublin, scoring seven goals, and now two great rivals are ready to try to get through and have a cut at them in a few weeks time. The three teams left in the championship are the three royalties of hurling, winning 94 of all possible All-Irelands, and don’t tend to get bashful when they see the Liam MacCarthy Cup in sight. This should be an interesting battle today, closer than yesterday you imagine.

Here are the teams:

TIPPERARY: R. Shelly, R. Doyle, E. Connolly, M. Breen; C. Morgan, R. Maher (capt), B. O’Mara; W. Connors, P. McGarry; J. Morris, A. Ormond, S. O’Farrell; D. McCarthy, J. McGrath, J. Forde.

Subs: B. Hogan, J. Caesar, S. Kenneally, S. Kennedy, B. McGrath, N. McGrath, O. O’Donoghue, J. Ryan, C. Stakelum, D. Stakelum, A. Tynan.

KILKENNY: E. Murphy; M. Butler, H. Lawlor, S. Murphy; M. Carey, R. Reid, P. Deegan; C. Kenny, J. Molloy; A. Mullan, J. Donnelly (capt), B. Ryan; M. Keoghan, TJ Reid, E. Cody.

Subs: A. Tallis, T. Walsh, D. Blanchfield, P. Moylan, K. Doyle, ZB Hammond, F. Mackessy, S. Donnelly, L. Hogan, L. Connellan, B. Drennan.
