SOCCER:FAI CHIEF executive John Delaney has suggested an attempt will be made to have some of the conditions attached to the planning permission for the Aviva Stadium relaxed or altered in the wake of the highly publicised problems experienced by people exiting the ground following a number of events held there since the stadium was opened at the end of the summer.

Speaking at the announcement yesterday of an extension of Boylesports’ sponsorship of the association, Delaney said the scale of the most recent difficulties, immediately after last Saturday’s rugby match between Leinster and Munster, had been exacerbated by barriers which should have been removed during the game having been left in place along some of the main exit routes.

But there is, he admits, an ongoing problem in relation to access to Lansdowne Road Dart station as large numbers of spectators attempt to leave by train.

“One of the problems has been the success of the Dart station with more than 20,000 people using the Dart to get to games which means they have to get back to the station afterwards,” said Delaney.

“I’m comfortable that this is a world-class stadium but we need to learn from the ins and outs of the stadium and look to get some changes from the planners.”
