NEAR gale conditions on the south coast over the weekend gave rise to plenty of collisions at the 1720 South Coast Championship at the Royal Cork Yacht Club. After four races, Jeff Condell's Outdoor Innovations helmed by Owen Hennessy is leading ahead of Anthony O'Leary's Ford Racing.
Mark Mansfield is in third place on Union Chandlery. However, a maximum points "did not start" from race two hides his true position of overall leader thanks to two firsts and a third. He must wait for the single discard to kick in next weekend which should give him a comfortable overall lead.
At Howth YC on Saturday, the first race in the Electrolux Skiff League got off to a shaky start for two entries. Maurice "Prof O'Connell sailing the sponsor's B14 and Mike Evans on A Wear had seemed to take an early lead over the nine boat fleet. However, both had sailed to the wrong mark and it was Dan O'Grady that won ahead of Darragh Sheridan sailing the Dinghy Supplies Laser 4000.
