Hard as it might be to believe, the Leinster first division campaign is already nearing the half-way point, with three teams – Loreto, Railway Union and Old Alexandra – tied at the top on 17 points, Loreto having played one game more.

Alexandra missed the chance to go clear at the top when they were held to a scoreless draw by Glenanne on Monday, with Pembroke Wanderers and Corinthian also tying the night’s other game.

Alexandra’s unbeaten record – Railway the only other side yet to lose – is likely to receive its sternest test yet with the visit of UCD to Milltown tomorrow.

Without their internationals, the defending champions had a shaky start to the season, drawing two and losing one of their first three games, but since then they’ve scored 19 and conceded just two in four consecutive victories, the latest last weekend’s 4-2 win over title rivals Loreto.

Hermes, too, need to recover from a start that has left them four points adrift of the leaders, but their opponents tomorrow are one of that group, Railway.

Four teams from the bottom half of the table meet tomorrow with Corinthian hosting North Kildare while Glenanne take on Pembroke at home.
