John Clendennen (42) is a second-generation Fine Gael local representative.
His father Percy was also an Offaly county councillor for many years.
The younger Clendennen was first elected to the council in 2014 and was re-elected to it on the sixth count in this year’s local elections.
The Kinnitty native works in his family business of Giltraps Pub Townhouse Glamping, and new employment for the area was one of the key planks of his election campaign, along with housing and health.

He is the president of the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland, and has been critical of this year’s budget and the pressures facing the hospitality industry.
Mr Clendennen is married to Elaine and has one young son, named Percy.
