Rock of ages: BC or BCE?

Sir, – Ray Leonard writes (Letters, March 16th) that the designation BC and AD are discriminatory and not inclusive of those who don't recognise Christ as their Lord.

If the modern BCE/CE is used as he suggests, isn’t there still the “discrimination” of what we’re counting the years from? Pol Pot didn’t do any half measures in that regard starting Cambodia under his regime at year zero and the French Revolution started at year one.

I’m wondering why Mr Leonard didn’t follow the logic of his argument to its conclusion or are the obvious historical comparisons the reason why he shies from doing so?

What might be a good year to start counting from?
