Losing time on your passport

Sir, – I recently renewed my passport (in July), as the advice to have a valid passport of at least six months when returning from abroad, prompted me to do so.

My now “old” invalid passport was due to expire in January 2018. The new passport I received is valid only to July 10 years from now – in other words it’s a nine-and-a-half year passport. Six months have magically vanished.

So for people applying for a new passport who give themselves time before it expires, don’t expect to have that time added back to your new document. Same price paid; less validity time. Nine-and-a-half is the new 10. – Yours, etc,
