Importance of Beacon report

Sir, – I note that a correspondent (Letters, August 30th) wonders how much the report into the Beacon Hospital's distribution of vaccines to a private school will cost us.

The correspondent writes that the 20 vaccines “were not wasted”. A curious claim.

Vaccines were in short supply at that time. An order of priority based on factors such as age and vulnerability was in place and accepted by all right-thinking people. There were perhaps hundreds or thousands of more worthy candidates for those vaccines within a short distance of the Beacon Hospital.

Perhaps someone may have succumbed to the disease that may have been saved by an earlier vaccine. A report is most certainly warranted. – Yours, etc,
