Finding your way in Dublin Airport

Sir, – I write in reference to the DAA’s plan to impose drop-off charges. As someone who worked in Dublin Airport for 20 years, I find the DAA among the worst for “waysignage” (signs pointing you in the right direction).

If you book a taxi/limo/minibus to collect you, that driver is supposed to go to the “surface car park” near T2, then he’s to walk to T1/2 to meet you. Then he has to walk into the bowels of T2 car park to pay his ticket, exit again to walk to the surface car park, before finally exiting the car park. If a taxi knows where you are waiting and picks you up, he’s subject to a fine from the airport police because the DAA wants revenue, any way they can get it.

As for the T1 drop-off area, that’s a constant jam because most airport police don’t see traffic control as part of their job. The very odd airport police officer keeps things moving, but those officers are few and far between. A drop-off charge is just another cash grab from an inefficient DAA.
