Educated eejits

Sir, – Given the changes in the global and political climate, David Murnane’s concern over whether Boris Johnson is an educated eejit is timely (October 8th).

A hundred years ago the idea of having educated eejits in charge of things fell into disrepute after the inexplicable tactics of elitist officers led to catastrophic casualties in the first World War.

For a time afterwards the educated eejit kept his head down, performing only back-room roles such as acting as purchasing officer for modern art galleries.

Now he has returned, successfully courting popularity by shielding us from experts who pummel us with facts. Next up, we find out whether inconvenient consequences turn out to be worse than inconvenient truths. – Yours, etc,
