The wisdom of holding presidential inaugurations at Dublin Castle

‘Versailles it’s not’

Sir, − Miriam Lord thinks that Dublin Castle’s St Patrick’s Hall is too small (“A good inauguration but it wasn’t a great inauguration,” Miriam Lord’s Week, November 15th).

Twenty years ago I was walking behind two American tourists as they entered Dublin Castle’s Upper Yard on their way to visit the State Apartments and St Patrick’s Hall. One turned to the other and commented “Versailles it’s not”. − Yours, etc,

KARL MARTIN,

Bayside,

Dublin 13.
