Sir, – The news that our Olympic gold medal rowers had to “bag” a lift from Dublin Airport back to their native Cork is beyond belief. One would have thought that, at the very least, Rowing Ireland, the governing body of Irish rowing, would have arranged the transport home for our two sporting heroes rather than casting them adrift on their arrival back on Irish soil . – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I was initially surprised that the Mighty Cork Rowers were having to paddle their own canoe back home from the plane. But, on mature reflection, neither chap likes a fuss. It was very nice of the Limerickman living in Mallow to give them and their pieces of gold a lift. After all, one Corkman kicking up a fuss about travel arrangements was quite enough for one lifetime. – Yours, etc,
