Sir, – In view of your article on the warnings of the legal implications of the referendums (“Referendums risked ‘legal uncertainty’ for migration rules, officials warned before O’Gorman’s reassurances”, News, June 6th), and previous revelations from Revenue (“Revenue officials warned privately that family referendum could force tax changes”, News, May 21st), it seems very clear that Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth of Ireland Roderic O’Gorman and the whole Government have questions to answer.
The electorate were repeatedly misled and kept in the dark by Government parties, despite these same politicians having been advised by their departments of massive potential problems should the referendums have passed.
We hear continuously of the lack of trust in Government, the growth in disinformation, the far right, conspiracy theories, etc.
Is it any wonder the electorate become sceptical when our Government blatantly misleads us and, when caught out, carries on without apology or explanation.
