Irish man seriously injured after being punched in Sydney

A Cork man has been seriously injured after being punched outside a nightclub in Sydney, Australia.

Jason Cierans, who has been living in Australia for just over five years, was knocked to the ground after an apparent argument between a group of people ouside a Bondi Junction club at 1am Saturday morning.

The 29-year-old is in an induced coma at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, and has reportedly undergone surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.

He family in Ireland have been notified.

A 27-year-old man was charged with affray, and a 30-year-old man believed to be from Argentina has been charged with recklessly causing grievously bodily harm.

The Department of Foreign Affairs have confirmed they are providing consular assistance.
