Motorcyclist dies in Cork road traffic incident

Gardaí appeal for witnesses as road in Glanmire closed off for examination

A man (20) died on Wednesday evening following a crash between his motorcycle and a car in Co Cork.

The collision happened at Lackenroe, Glanmire at approximately 6 pm. The scene was preserved for technical examination but the road has now been cleared.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Cork University Hospital. The driver of the car was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Three men were killed in road crashes over the bank holiday weekend.

On Monday, a man (22) died after the car he was driving hit a wall at Kilmullen, Portarlington, Co Laois.

On Saturday, a man in his 20s was killed in a single-vehicle incident when his car crashed at Charlestown, Co Mayo. On the same day, another man in his 30s was killed when his motorcycle was in collision with a car Clooncahir, Mohill, Co Leitrim.

A total of 99 people have died in road crashes in the Republic this year. Of the 99 deaths, 13 of them were motorcyclists.
