Two men remanded on bail after seizure of drugs worth €110,000 in Cork

Accused charged with possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis for sale or supply

Two men have been remanded on bail after they were charged in connection with a €110,000 drugs seizure during a planned search of a house in Cork city earlier this week.

William Power (30) and Ronald McKenzie (55) were both charged with two offences following the discovery by gardaí of 5.5 kilos of cannabis herb at a house on the Ballinlough Road in the city.

Both Mr Power and Mr McKenzie are charged with possession of cannabis, and possession of cannabis for sale or supply, at Cogan’s Cottages, Ballinlough Road on January 31st.

On Thursday, at Cork District Court, Det Garda Eoin O’Toole gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution in relation to Mr Power and told the court that he made no reply to the charge after caution.

He said gardaí had no objection to bail and Judge Olann Kelleher remanded Mr Power of Hazelwood Grove, Kinsale Road, Cork, on his own bond to appear again in court on March 1st.

Judge Kelleher made it a condition of Mr Power's bail that he sign on every Monday and Friday at Togher Garda Station, abide by a 10pm to 7am curfew and surrender his passport to gardaí.

Meanwhile, Mr McKenzie was charged separately on Wednesday afternoon when Det Garda John Sheedy told the court that the accused made no reply when gardai put the charges to him.

Judge Kelleher was told that gardaí had no objection to bail for Mr McKenzie of Cogan’s Cottages, Ballinlough Road, Cork and he also remanded him on bail to appear again in court on March 1st.
