Two people have been injured after a car collided with a parked truck in Co Kildare on Friday morning.

One of the injured, a female passenger in the car, is in a serious condition and is being treated at James Connolly hospital. The male driver of the car was also admitted to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

The crash happened on the Kilcock to Enfield road R148 at 6am. The road is now closed and diversions are in place.

There is significant concern over the numbers of people being seriously injured and killed in road collisions this year.

To date in 2016 105 people have been killed in crashes, a rise of 18 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The Road Safety Authority said that so far in July 18 people have been killed in collisions.
