Man’s body discovered in grounds of school

Death is not believed to be weather-related after drugs paraphernalia located nearby

Gardaí in Cork are investigating the sudden death of a man in his early 50s on Sunday.

The discovery was made at approximately 10am on the grounds of a school on Blackrock Road.

The man’s body was removed to Cork University Hospital.

It’s understood he was known to homelessness services in the area and that a bed was available for him over the weekend. Paraphernalia associated with drug use was located nearby.

A post mortem will take place on the man’s body today. The matter is being investigated as a sudden death, according to the Garda.

Separately, the body of a man in his 80s was discovered in Co Carlow on Sunday.

The man’s body was taken to St Luke’s Hospital in an ambulance where he was pronounced dead. A post mortem is to take place later this afternoon.
