A man has been rescued after he was found in the water off Buncrana Pier in Co Donegal on Sunday night.
The man was spotted around 10pm in the water by a passer-by.
The alarm was raised and the man was thrown a life-ring from the pier and was pulled to safety.
The emergency services had arrived at the pier and the man, understood to be a foreign national who lives locally, was treated at the scene by the fire service.
He was then transferred by ambulance to Letterkenny University Hospital.
The man is understood to be in a stable condition in hospital.
The incident comes just weeks after five members of the one family died when their car slipped into the sea as they enjoyed a Sunday evening out at the same pier on the shores of Lough Swilly.
A full investigation into the tragedy, which happened in March, is still ongoing.
A four month old baby was saved when passer-by Davitt Walsh swam out to the car and managed to take the baby from her father's arms.
