Gardai have arrested a man for questioning in connection with an armed raid on a post office in north Cork earlier today.
A lone raider armed with a handgun stole a small sum of cash when he held up the postmaster at Banteer Post Office near Kanturk at around 11.40am.
No shots were fired during the raid and no one was injured.
The raider - who was wearing a balaclava - made his getaway in a black Lexus parked near the post office.
Gardai are investigating whether the raider may have had an accomplice waiting in the car or whether he drove the getaway vehicle himself.
The car, which had been stolen in Killarney on September 12th, was found burnt out a few kilometres away on the old Butter Road which links Cork city with Millstreet.
Gardai arrested a man in his 20s in the vicinity of the Butter Road within the past hour and he has been taken to Kanturk Garda station for questioning about the raid.
The man is being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act which allows gardai detain suspects for up to seven days.
