A man in his 40s has died following a road crash in Co Clare on Friday afternoon.

Gardaí received reports of a single-vehicle crash involving an SUV towing a trailer on the N18 in Bunratty at 2.10pm.

The man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to University Hospital Limerick, where a postmortem will take place at a later date.

The road is closed and local diversions are in place. A technical examination is being conducted by Garda forensic collision investigators.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. They are particularly appealing to any road users who were travelling on this road at the time with camera footage to make this available to them.
