A well-known priest is recovering after a collision with a car in Killarney while crossing a road in the town centre yesterday.

The archdeacon, who will be 91 next month, led Sneem and Kenmare to Tidy Towns victory and played a pivotal role in Killarney's win in recent years. He had moved to the town on his retirement.

He is an older brother of retired Bishop of Kerry Dr Bill Murphy.
