Police treating Brendan Devenney’s death as ‘accidental’ pending postmortem results

A young Irish man believed to be from Mullingar has died after he was found unconscious in a hotel in Mumbai, India.

Brendan Devenney had been found unconscious by hotel staff in Mumbai, according to the Times of India.

Mr Devenney was brought to hospital, where he was declared dead.

Local police are awaiting the results of a postmortem but are treating the death as “accidental”, according to the paper.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it was aware of the case and providing consular assistance to Mr Devenney’s family.

A spokesman for the Department said it was working with officials both in Ireland and in the Irish Embassy in New Delhi on the case.
