The HSE’s national gender service (NGS), which provides specialist support to people seeking medical and surgical interventions to help affirm their gender, has launched a website.

The nationalgenderserviceireland.com website will provide information on the referral pathway to the NGS, including waiting times and what people can expect from each step in the process.

Phone numbers and email addresses are also available on the website so people can contact the service directly with any questions they may have.

It will also provide information for healthcare professionals who provide support to individuals requiring gender care.

There is also a section on the website for peer and family supports.

The service was first set up in 2018 and is based in St Columcille’s Hospital in Loughlinstown, Co Dublin.

Dr Karl Neff, clinical lead at the national gender service, said the website was long overdue.

“One consistent item of feedback from service users has been that it is hard to find clear and accurate information about the national gender service online.

“We hope that this website addresses that deficit in information. We’ve tried to answer as many commonly asked questions as possible, and to communicate as much information as we can about the service and the clinical care we offer.”
