A Garda vehicle was struck by gunfire in the early hours of Saturday morning after officers came across three men armed with a gun and a baseball bat in Tallaght, Dublin.

A marked Garda patrol car with unarmed uniformed gardaí came across the three men in the Rossfield Avenue area shortly after 2.30am. One of the men was in possession of a handgun, while another carried a baseball bat.

The male with the handgun discharged a number of shots towards the Garda patrol vehicle, one of which struck the target.

All three men fled the scene and no arrests have yet been made. No gardaí were injured during the incident.
