The removal will take place at Whelan’s Undertakers in Tipperary town on Saturday evening with removal to Oola Church.

Ms Power who underwent surgery to her arm at University Hospital Limerick this week was due to be released from hospital on Friday ahead of the funeral for her son and former partner.

Gardai were hoping to formally interview the mother.

A number of witnesses including the truck driver and a motorcyclist who almost became caught up in the fatal collision have also been interviewed as part of the investigation.

It is understood a number of people have given statements indicating that Mr Velocci drove out in front of the oncoming truck.

The truck driver was not injured in the collision but is said to be extremely traumatised after the ordeal.

The couple were childhood sweethearts, but had separated two years ago. Mr Velocci shared custody of their son who lived with his mum in a rented bungalow in the Co Limerick village of Oola and three year old Alex was seen in their company.

Both sets of grandparents also live in the village of Oola.
