Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats have produced a draft document of agreement for the formation of a new government.

A Government spokesman confirmed that the document had been given to both Mr Ahern and Ms Harney for their consideration.

He added that there may be further meetings between the two parties this evening and tomorrow on issues that arise from the document. Both sides may also examine it over the weekend, he said.

The draft document will then be examined by the Fianna Fáil Parliamentary Party and the General Council of the Progressive Democrats, before full agreement is reached.

Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats began Coalition negotiations on Monday. Mr Ahern said then that he hoped to reach agreement by the weekend.
