A man is undergoing medical treatment after he was stabbed at St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Longford town.

Three men have been arrested after the victim sustained a number of serious injuries in a disturbance on the Earl Street-New Street area of the town.

The attack occurred between 8pm and 9pm and the area was immediately sealed off as a crime scene.

It was expected to remain sealed off overnight and undergo an examination by members of the Garda Technical Bureau this morning.

The injured man was taken by ambulance for treatment in a Dublin hospital.

The motive for the attack was unclear last night. Gardaí are hopeful witnesses will come forward considering the large number of people celebrating the national holiday in the town.
