Man who killed garda Tony Golden charged with IRA membership

Adrian Crevan Mackin, a 24-year-old originally from Co Down, who shot dead garda, Tony Golden, at a house in Co Louth on Sunday evening, was on bail having been charged earlier this year with being a member of a dissident republican organisation.

Mackin who died after shooting dead Garda Golden with a handgun when the officer called to a house in response to a domestic disturbance.

Garda Golden was a married father of three children.

The shooting happened at a property on the Mullach Álainn estate in the north Louth village of Omeath on the Cooley Peninsula.

Earlier this year Mackin was before the Special Criminal Court, charged with IRA membership.

Adrian Crevan Mackin of Mullach Alainn, Omeath was brought before a special sitting of the court in January.

He was charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA.

Crevan made no reply when charged.
