A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with a carjacking at Dublin airport yesterday afternoon. He is due in court later this morning.

A man in his 60s was loading the boot of his car at 3.40pm at the airport when he was assaulted by the young man who then stole the car and drove off.

A man in his mid 40s tried to stop him leaving the airport and was knocked down. He was not seriously injured and did not require hospital treatment.

Airport police alerted gardaí and the car was stopped on the Naul Road in Ballymun and the man was arrested. He was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment for minor injuries and discharged. He remains in garda custody at Ballymun garda station.

During the arrest a garda in his late 30s was injured. He was taken to James Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown and has since been released.

The man in his 60s was brought to Beaumont Hospital with facial and other injuries.
