The Government has appointed four new assistant commissioners to An Garda Síochána.
The promoted officers are Chief Supt Michael O'Sullivan, of the Drugs and Organised Crime Division; Chief Supt John O'Driscoll, of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation; Chief Supt Eugene Corcoran, of the Criminal Assets Bureau, and Chief Supt Anne-Marie McMahon of the Garda College.
The appointments are required to fill existing vacancies, with four regions of the State currently without an assistant commissioner: the Dublin Metropolitan Region, the Northern Region, the Southern Region and the Western Region.
The vacancies arose from a combination of promotions and retirements over the last 14 months.
