Golfer Rory McIlroy's legal dispute with his former sports agent has been formally settled, the High Court heard this morning.
A settlement was announced a month ago just before a scheduled eight week hearing was about to get underway and following day long talks.
It was put back to allow the settlement to be formalised in writing, and last week the court was told work was continuing in relation to that.
Today, Rossa Fanning BL, for Mr McIlroy told Mr Justice Brian Cregan he was pleased to inform the court his client's claim, and a counter-claim, could be struck out. Any costs orders previously made by the court, including thoses in favour of non-parties in the case, could also be vacated, he said.
Maurice Collins SC, for the defendants, said there was consent to the application.
The Northern Ireland golfer had sued his former agent, Dublin-based Horizon Sports Management Ltd, and two associated special purpose companies,Gurteen Ltd, with a registered address in Malta, and Dublin-based CanovanManagement Services.
Mr McIlroy claimed he entered into improvident representation agreements in December 2011 and March 2013.
The defendants denied his claims and counter-claimed.
In a joint statement issued immediately after the settlement announcement last month, it said the case between Mr McIlroy and Horizon had been “settled to the satisfaction of both parties who wish each other well for the future”.
