Man replied, ‘F*** them,’ when charged over robberies and firearm

Charges relate to possession of firearm and robbery of number of service stations

A 49-year-old man appeared in court in Limerick charged with possession of a firearm and robbing a number of service stations in Co Limerick and Co Clare.

John Carroll, Clonshire, Adare, Co Limerick, is charged with possession of a rifle at the Gala shop and filling station, Larkins Cross, Ardnacrusha, Co Clare, on October 12th last. He is also charged with attempting to rob the service station.

Limerick District Court heard the man was formally charged with seven separate offences at Henry Street Garda station on Wednesday night.

He appeared before the District Court yesterday where he was also charged with the robbery of the Applegreen Service Station at Coolanoran, Newcastle West, Co Limerick, on October 2nd, 2015, and the robbery of the Topaz Garage at Childers Road two days later.

Mr Carroll is also charged with attempted robbery of the Applegreen filling station at Coonagh, Ennis Road, and two counts of burglary at private residences in Graigue and Desmond Drive, Adare.

Garda Tom Keane gave evidence of charging him in respect of the burglaries. The court heard he replied: "f*** them" .
