Man caught with stolen US embassy chequebooks is jailed

A man who was found in possession of two stolen chequebooks from the US embassy in Dublin has been jailed for 10 months by Tallaght court.

The court heard the two chequebooks were found in Aaron Carey’s home. They had been taken in a burglary on July 2014.

Garda David Jennings told Tallaght court that on September 19th 2014, he carried out a search of Carey’s address in Avonbeg Park in Tallaght.

Garda Jennings told Judge Bridget Reilly that during the search he found two chequebooks from the American embassy.

He said Carey (24) was arrested and made certain admissions when questioned.

Garda Jennings said the chequebooks had been taken in a burglary in July 2014.

Carey with an address at Avonbeg Drive, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to possessing stolen property: two chequebooks at the above address on September 19th 2014. He also pleaded guilty to failing to appear in the Courts of Criminal Justice on September 20th 2014.

Garda Jennings said Carey had 32 previous convictions including 10 months for burglary from Dublin Circuit Court on November 28th 2011.

Carey’s solicitor, John O’Leary, told Judge Reilly that his client had pleaded guilty. He asked the judge to take into consideration the guilty plea.

Judge Reilly sentenced Carey to 10 months jail.
