Gardaí in Kilkenny are investigating an incident in which cattle died after being hit by a driver who deliberately drove through a field.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday in the townland of Cannafahy.

Gardaí said a farmer inspecting his lands early in the morning discovered one of his livestock dead and others with injuries.

Another cow had to be put down due to the extent of its injuries.

Gardaí said the injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle, and tyre tracks were discovered at the scene.

Gardaí in Callan are investigating the matter and are appealing for information.
