Body of man (40s) discovered after house fire in Co Tipperary

Gardaí appeal to public for information on incident that occurred near Thurles

A man has been found dead following a fire at a house near Thurles in Co Tipperary.

Fire service units were alerted to the blaze at a property near the village of Ballingarry at about 11am on Sunday.

The body of a man, believed to be in his 40s, was discovered inside the bungalow after the fire was extinguished.

Sealed off

The scene was sealed off and was due to be examined by members of the Garda Technical Bureau in an attempt to determine the cause of the fire. A Garda spokesman said the force was “investigating all of the circumstances” surrounding the man’s death.

The man’s body was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital and was due to be transferred to Waterford University Hospital for a postmortem.

Gardaí on Sunday did not think there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, but have appealed to anyone with information about the fire or when the man was last seen to contact them on 0504-25100.
