Auction Results:

Sunday (May 8th, 2016) Christie's, New York. Auction of Modern, Post-War and Contemporary Art. A waxwork sculpture of Hitler entitled Him by the Italian artist Maurizo Cattelan sold – after five minutes of bidding – for $ 17.2 million (€15 million) – above the estimate ($ 10 million-$15 million) and creating a new world auction record for the 55-year-old artist.

Monday (May 9th)

Sotheby's, New York. L'Éternel Printemps (a marble sculpture of embracing lovers) by Auguste Rodin, for $ 20.4 million (€17.5 million). The estimate had been $8 million-$12 million.

Tuesday (May 10th)

Christie's, New York. Post-War & Contemporary Art auction. Untitled 1982, an oil-on-canvas painting by the American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat , who died, aged 27, in 1988, sold for $ 57.3 million (€ 50 .2 million). The estimate had been "on request". It was bought by an unnamed collector in Asia and is a new world auction record for the artist.

An oil-on-canvas painting dated September 1843 entitled The White Squadron in Cork Harbour by 19th-century Cork marine artist George Mounsey Wheatley Atkinson, which depicts three ships from the Royal Navy on a visit to the city in 1843, is estimated at €50,000- €60,000.
