Three days of viewing begin at noon today in Skibbereen, Co Cork, for Morgan O’Driscoll’s forthcoming sale – the first art auction of the autumn season.
The catalogue features more than 100 paintings by Irish and international artists.
The show moves to Dublin next Saturday (September 13th) for three further days of viewing in the Minerva Suite at the RDS where the auction takes place on Monday, September 15th at 6pm.
Among the Irish highlights is a still life, Studio Table by Patrick Hennessy (€4,000-€6,000); and Islands by Patrick Collins (€17,000- €25,000) which was in the collection of the late Sir Basil Goulding.
A painting of an artist making a famous painting is the subject of Homage to Sean Scully's Painting 'Wall of Light' by Ivan Sutton is €1,200-€1,800.
Among the international lots is the highest-estimated painting in the auction. The oil-on-canvas, Paper Crane by Chinese artist Li Wentao (€50,000-€70,000), was bought by a private collector "directly from the artist in November 2005 at the Grand Marché d'Art Contemporain de Bastille, Paris".
According to the auctioneer, Li Wentao, who was born in 1967 and lives and works in Beijing, is “making great prices in both China and New York”.
