A studio flat in London, mockingly described on Reddit as a "mattress with walls" was advertised as costing £700 (€988) a month. The ground-floor studio apartment, a 10-minute bus journey from Elephant and Castle tube station, is being advertised for rent on the UK-based lettings and sales site Rightmove (rightmove.co.uk) for £162 per week or £700 per month.
The advertisement doesn’t say how big or small the space is but a quick call to Letting agency DC Estates and Lettings reveals it is about 11 sq m (120sq feet). The space includes a small kitchenette and a shower stall and toilet both of which are in the room. A photograph online shows another door that may be a wardrobe.
A link to the listing was shared on Reddit, a website that describes itself “the front page of the internet” and features user-generated content, led to the posting going viral.
