Gardaí appeal for witnesses following fatal Dame Street collision

Section of street was closed and local diversions were in place

A man has died following a collision involving a bin lorry in Dublin city centre.

The incident took place at about 1.45am on Thursday.

A pedestrian in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed to Dublin City Mortuary where a postmortem is due to take place.

Gardaí have reopened a section of Dame Street that was closed following the early-morning collision.

No other injuries were reported.

Investigations are ongoing and the coroner has been notified.

Gardaí have issued an appeal to anyone who may have taken images or recorded footage of the incident to not share it on social media platforms or messaging apps.

Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage who were in the area between 1.30am and 2am are asked to make this this footage available to gardaí.

A section of Dame Street between Parliament Street and South Great George’s Street was closed and local diversions were in place.

Gardaí had asked road users to take alternative routes if possible.
